What is Kick Start Cart?
OnsShopping cart.com is a third-party shopping cart service that functions independently of any particular website and is available under a number of brandings such as Kick Start Cart. It offers a variety of marketing tools from email autoresponders to coupons, add-on sales, and digital product delivery.
If you are looking for a no hassle solution Kick Start Cart might be for you; they even offer a 30-day free trial so you can take it for a test run. It can be used with an unlimited number of sites so you don’t need to set up shopping carts and catalogs to sell the same products on each of your websites, newsletters, blogs and social networks.
Digital Downloads Issues
For all of its benefits, there is one little problem with this service – the file size of digital products being uploaded is limited. While it’s actually done for legitimate reasons this can be an issue when selling large collections of digital files such as daily stock reports for 2016. Because 1ShoppingCart.com / Kick Start Cart is a third-party solution they need to control bandwidth usage much like a shared hosting account does. By restricting the size of digital products they ensure a better experience for all of their users and their users’ customers.
For the average website owner, the file size is limited to about 10-15MB but it doesn’t always seem to be a hard and fast rule (based on last time this author tested the service). The limitations appear to be related to timeout than actual file size as people on higher speed connections can upload files as large as 20-45MB before the file upload times out.
Most people will never have an issue with the digital file size limit unless they are selling videos or collections of files.
Solutions for The Digital File Limits
Ensure that your digital product is optimized
Remember that dial-up/Mobile users won’t be able to download your product if it’s oversized. Since the files are uploaded through a web interface, you may also experience timeouts while trying to transfer the file to Kick Start Cart. This can damage the product, or just be plain frustrating.

Upload from your Hard Drive
When uploading your digital product, do it from your hard drive, not a floppy diskette drive or a Cd-Rom. It may work for you, but more often than not it will crash the upload, or not function when you want to download the product.
Don’t use punctuation in the file names
Punctuation will cause the upload to fail, or if it happens to get published, the download could fail. The Internet works with a wide variety of coding languages, which all use punctuation to accomplish a variety of tasks. The dynamically generated URL from Kick Start Cart could malfunction if your file name has the wrong punctuation. To avoid this problem, use underscores or dashes instead of apostrophizes and commas.
Provide A Membership or Subscription Service
Set up membership or subscription on your website to access your larger files like videos and digital file collections. The file size limit issue will be resolved and you will have your customers returning to your website where you can pitch them on other products or services. In a previous post, we discussed WordPress Membership Plugins for 1ShoppingCart.
Host your Digital Files In The Cloud
Deliver digital downloads with an autoresponder containing a link to a Cloud Service such as Amazon S3. This eliminates the problem with digital file size limits although it does introduce the issue of unprotected download links. If the files are actually uploaded to and delivered from 1ShoppingCart the user will have an encrypted download link which can be set to a limited number of downloads if you use an autoresponder with a cloud service the link can be shared but many internet entrepreneurs consider this a form of viral marketing.
a method of product promotion that relies on getting customers to market an idea, product, or service on their own by telling their friends about it, usually by e-mail.
“a carefully designed viral marketing strategy”
Use An Alternative Shopping Cart Service
Another option is to use another comparable service like Cart66 Cloud which offers most of the same features as Kick Start Cart but doesn’t have the Digital File Size limits because it integrates with the Amazon S3 cloud service.
